The most popular type of Intermittent Fasting is fasting for 16 hours every day. Doing this allows for your body to digest deeper and promote weight loss. Water beverages are still allowed such as "water, coffee, tea and other non-caloric beverages" (Healthline). Naturally everyone fasts for 8 hours while sleeping, the idea is that you add 4 hours before and 4 hours after you sleep. During the other 8 hours you eat the normal amount of food you otherwise consume.

This is just a guideline and not a rule, breaking a fast -- or a diet isn't the end of the world. You can try again the next day, or week whatever works for you.
